William James (1842-1910) and John Dewey (1859 - 1952)

William James (January 11, 1842 – August 26, 1910) was an American philosopher andpsychologist who was also trained as a physician. The first educator to offer a psychology course in the United States, James was one of the leading thinkers of the late nineteenth century and is believed by many to be one of the most influential philosophers the United States has ever produced, while others have labelled him the "Father of American psychology".




John Dewey (
 October 20, 1859 – June 1, 1952) was an American philosopher,psychologistGeorgist, and educational reformer whose ideas have been influential in education and social reform. Dewey is one of the primary figures associated with the philosophy of pragmatism and is considered one of the founders of functional psychology. AReview of General Psychology survey, published in 2002, ranked Dewey as the 93rd most cited psychologist of the 20th century.[2] A well-known public intellectual, he was also a major voice of progressive education and liberalism.[3][4] Although Dewey is known best for his publications about education, he also wrote about many other topics, includingepistemologymetaphysicsaestheticsartlogicsocial theory, and ethics.
